Artemisia Argyi Leaf Extract
Artemisia argyi (Chinese mugwort, Ai Ye / 艾叶) leaf extract is derived from a perennial herb widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and moxibustion therapy. It is distinct from Artemisia vulgaris (European mugwort) and Artemisia capillaris (Asian capillary wormwood). The extract's bioactives — eucalyptol, camphor, flavonoids (artemetin, eupatilin), and caffeic acid derivatives — collectively deliver anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant benefits suited to soothing and skin-calming formulas.
Also known as: Chinese mugwort extract, Ai Ye extract, silvery wormwood extract

Benefits
- ✓Eucalyptol (1,8-cineole) and camphor in the volatile oil fraction provide anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity — traditional use of Ai Ye (艾葉) in Chinese moxibustion and medicine is underpinned by these bioactives
- ✓Flavonoids (artemetin, eupatilin, jaceosidin) and caffeic acid derivatives deliver antioxidant protection and additional anti-inflammatory effects
- ✓A distinct species from Artemisia Vulgaris (common mugwort) and Artemisia Capillaris — not interchangeable, though they share soothing and anti-inflammatory properties
Watch for
- ⚠Asteraceae family — patch test recommended for individuals with known mugwort or ragweed sensitivity
- ⚠Volatile oil components (eucalyptol, camphor) may cause mild irritation at high concentrations in leave-on formulas for sensitive skin
