Humectant
Taurine

A sulfonic amino acid that functions as a humectant and osmoprotectant, helping skin cells maintain hydration balance under osmotic stress.

humectantamino-acidosmoprotectant
Attracts and retains moistureSupports skin cell hydration as a natural osmolyteMild antioxidant support
UV filter
Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid

A water-soluble, photostable organic UVA filter (Ecamsule/Mexoryl SX) approved in the EU at up to 10% that absorbs UV radiation predominantly in the UVA range.

uva-filterphotostabilizer
Provides broad UVA protection (290–400 nm, peak at 345 nm)Highly photostable; does not degrade on sunlight exposureWater-soluble, suitable for lightweight fluid sunscreen formulations
Approved up to 10% in the EU; not FDA-approved for OTC sunscreens in the US as a standalone filterVery low systemic absorption; minimal safety concerns reported in studies
Other
Tetrasodium Etidronate
TETRASODIUM ETIDRONATE

The tetrasodium salt of etidronic acid (HEDP — hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid). A chelating agent that binds calcium and heavy metal ions in formulations, preventing oxidative degradation and enhancing preservative effectiveness. Common in toners and emulsions.

Antioxidant
Thioctic Acid

Alpha-lipoic acid, a fast-acting antioxidant that is both water- and fat-soluble, letting it work throughout the skin to neutralize free radicals.

Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate

A biodegradable chelating agent used as a greener alternative to disodium EDTA to bind trace metals and improve preservative performance in cosmetics.

chelator
Chelates heavy metal ions to improve formula stability and preservation efficacyBiodegradable and eco-friendlier alternative to EDTA
Other
Tryptophan

An essential amino acid (L-tryptophan) included in cosmetic amino acid complexes that mimic the skin's natural moisturizing factor, providing conditioning and supporting protein synthesis.

Wheat Amino Acids

Wheat Amino Acids is a mixture of amino acids derived from the hydrolysis of wheat gliadin or gluten proteins. The amino acid profile of wheat protein is rich in glutamic acid/glutamine, proline, and glycine — all components of the natural moisturizing factor and collagen. In cosmetics it functions as a conditioning humectant that replenishes stratum corneum amino acid content and contributes mild film-forming properties.

skin-conditioninghumectantfilm-forming
Amino acids derived from hydrolysis of wheat protein (primarily glutamine/glutamic acid, proline, glycine) that replenish the natural moisturizing factor (NMF) components of the stratum corneumSmall amino acid molecules penetrate the outer layers of the skin, contributing to moisture retention and the maintenance of the cornified cell envelopeFilm-forming properties from the peptide and amino acid mixture contribute to a smoother, more refined skin texture and reduced transepidermal water loss
Wheat-derived; individuals with wheat protein allergy should exercise caution. Extensively hydrolyzed wheat amino acids have substantially reduced allergenicity versus intact wheat protein, but topical sensitization to wheat protein has been documented in some users of hydrolyzed wheat cosmetics
